Contentment as Gain

Scripture Reading

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”— 1 Timothy 6:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”— Philippians 4:6-7

“Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."”— Nehemiah 8:10

Introduction

Friend, the next raise, upgrade, or achievement will not deliver the peace you are expecting from it.

Godliness With Contentment

1 Timothy 6:6 says, "Godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6 names the actual great gain, not more money or status, but godliness with contentment. Philippians 4:6-7 shows how contentment is kept, not being anxious about anything, but presenting requests to God with thanksgiving, so his peace guards our hearts. Nehemiah 8:10 shows the source of the strength behind that contentment, the joy of the Lord.

Living It Out

Seeking Jesus as Lord of your contentment means repenting of measuring your life against a standard the world set instead of the gain scripture actually names. Examine what you have been telling yourself you need in order to finally be content. Operate as God commands by giving thanks today specifically for what you already have, out loud, before you ask for anything more.

The Promise

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Teach me godliness with contentment, Lord, the great gain the world does not sell. Let your joy be my strength today. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Journey Health

A private Green – Yellow – Red read on your walk, drawn from your devotion reading, Bible study, and prayer life — a real hard season is never averaged away by everything else looking fine. When it turns red, the ministry reaches out first. You'll also see an anonymous, count-only signal that others are on this road with you.

Prayer Requests

Every prayer request is reviewed by the ministry. If something you write raises a concern, it reaches the ministry team immediately — quietly, without you needing to ask twice.

Sermon Study Guides

Real sermons, turned into study guides — teaching points, reflection questions, and a closing prayer — cross-linked to the matching week of Bible Study by scripture.

Prayer Ministry Sessions

Book one-on-one prayer ministry — by Zoom, or in person if you're near Dallas — with a minister and intercessor assigned to walk with you.

Bible Study

Weekly study content with progress tracking and a personal notes/diary area — authored on a rolling weekly buffer, so there's always a new week ready when you are.
